Four from Jeanne

@ Body & Soul:

Galloway

"Judith Miller thinks George Galloway is not credible. There isn't much more to say after that."

Posada: Harboring Terrorists

"Of course, the main question is, now that they've got him, what are they going to do with him? Extradite him to Venezuela? Not likely. Try him in South Florida? Right. Turn him over to an international tribunal? We're Americans, we don't speak international. The only realistic option is to keep him and hope nobody remembers all that stuff about how 'any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded as a hostile regime.' The United States is officially its own enemy."

Detainees' Stories

"What I don't understand is this: Every remotely competent reporter knows . . . that while the Newsweek story may have been wrong [in] its sourcing (and even that is debatable), it is 'right about the truth of the matter.' If the press had any sense of self respect whatsoever, we'd have reporters devouring information like the report that came from Human Rights First today, and writing up every charge, and every corroboration. And their papers would be printing it, if only in self-defense (unless they really enjoy being told that their only function is to run propaganda...)"

The death of Dilawar

"We snatched an innocent young man out of his quiet life and beat him to death, even after we knew he was innocent. If you can say that sentence out loud and not cry, I don't want to know you. I now also know more than I want to know about the circumstances under which Dilawar, and others, were tortured. The prisoners who were beaten severely and repeatedly were the 'uncooperative' ones. A synonym for 'uncooperative,' in this case, is non-English-speaking..."

THANKS JEANNE.
